Catalog Scope and Limits

The course offerings and requirements of the college are continually under examination and revision. This catalog presents the offerings and requirements in effect at the time of publication including online posting, but there is no guarantee they will not be changed or revoked. However, adequate and reasonable notice will be given to students affected by any changes. This catalog is not intended to state contractual terms and does not constitute a contract between the student and the college.

The college reserves the right to make changes as required in course offerings, curricula, academic policies, and other rules and regulations affecting students, to be effective whenever determined by the college. The enrollment of all students is subject to these conditions. Current information may be obtained from the following sources: Admission Requirements–Admissions Office, Course Offerings–Program or Division offering the course, Degree Requirements–Records Office, and Tuition–Bursar’s Office. Nashville State Community College provides the opportunity for students to increase their knowledge by providing programs of instruction in the various disciplines through faculty who are qualified for teaching at the college level. The acquisition and retention of knowledge by any student is, however, contingent upon the student’s desire and ability to learn and upon application of appropriate study techniques to any course or program. Thus, Nashville State Community College must necessarily limit representation of student preparedness in any field of study to that competency demonstrated at that specific point in time at which appropriate academic measurements were taken to certify course or program completion.

Chapter No. 661, House Bill 3526

It is a Class A misdemeanor to misrepresent academic credentials. A person commits the offense of misrepresentation of academic credentials who, knowing that the statement is false and with the intent to secure employment at or admission to an institution of higher education in Tennessee,  represents, orally or in writing that such person:

  1. Has successfully completed the required course work for and has been awarded one (1) or more degrees or diplomas from an accredited institution of higher education;
  2. Has successfully completed the required course work for and has been awarded one (1) or more degrees for diplomas from a particular institution of higher education;
  3. Has successfully completed the required course work for and has been awarded one (1) or more degrees or diplomas in a particular field or specialty from an accredited institution of higher education.

U.S. Department of Education Title IV Financial and Program Integrity

Students or prospective students who wish to file a complaint related to accreditation or regarding violations of state law not resolved at the institution may submit a Student Complaint Form to the Tennessee Board of Regents at 1415 Murfreesboro Road, Suite 340, Nashville Tennessee 37217, or by going on line and filing out the form electronically at http://www.tbr.edu/contact/StudentComplaintForm.aspx. Under Tennessee’s open records law, all or parts of complaints will generally be available for review upon request from a member of the public. Complaints regarding accreditation can also be made by contacting the Commission of Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, 1866 South Lane, Decatur Georgia 3033 (www.sacs.org).

Complaints of fraud, waste or abuse may be made by email at reportfraud@tbr.edu or by calling the Tennessee Comptroller’s Hotline for Fraud, Waste and Abuse at 1-800-232-5454.

Accreditation and Memberships

Nashville State Community College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. Contact the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097; Telephone 404-679-4501 for questions about the accreditation of Nashville State Community College. The Commission should be contacted only if there is evidence supporting significant noncompliance by the college with the commission requirements and standards. Other questions such as inquiries about admissions or graduation requirements, or academic programs should be directed to the college.

The following business degrees at Nashville State Community College are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), 7007 College Blvd., Suite 420, Overland Park, Kansas 66211; Telephone 913-339-9356: A.A.S. in Business Management, A.A.S. in Computer Accounting, A.A.S. in Healthcare Management, and A.A.S. in Office Administration.

The Architectural, Civil, and Construction Engineering Technology and the Electrical Engineering Technology programs are accredited by the Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering (ATMAE).

The Associate Degree Nursing Program at Nashville State Community College has been deemed eligible to participate in the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) candidacy process. This process is the prerequisite step toward formal review for the NLNAC initial accreditation.

The Occupational Therapy Assistant Program is accredited by the Accreditation Council of Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE).

The Surgical Technology Program has been reviewed by the Accreditation Review Committee on Surgical Technology (ARC-ST), and is accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

The Culinary Arts A.A.S. degree program is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of the American Culinary Federation Education Foundation.

The Early Childhood Education A.A.S. Degree Program is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)
