Transfer/Advising
The A.A.S. degree is designed to prepare a student for employment upon graduation. Some universities, at their discretion, accept some technical courses for transfer. A student who plans to transfer to a university should consult his/her advisor and the receiving university about transfer and articulation policies. Failure to do so could result in loss of transfer credits.
Medical Business Pathway

Employment opportunities could include medical receptionist, medical administrative assistant, or medical records clerk. Skill development in the following areas is emphasized: software applications, office procedures, electronic health records, and business communications.
A currently enrolled student may receive advanced standing credit by successfully completing the Certified Administrative Professional Exam (CAP). The student may receive the following credits based on verification of successful completion of the exam:
Students should consult with their advisors when requesting credit earned through the CAP.
For more information on this exam, please visit the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP) website (www.iaap-hq.org). Students should consult their assigned advisors for scheduling of courses prior to the exam to ensure maximum credit for the exam.
Advanced standing credit may also be earned for ADMN 1308 - Office Procedures through prior work experience. Students must provide the program with evidence of three years of full-time work experience, e.g., copies of job descriptions, letters of reference from supervisors, reports, office communication, and other documents which would verify the type of work performed. Students should consult their assigned advisor for specific instructions on preparing the work documentation portfolio.

NOTES:
Additional course requirements: The Tennessee Board of Regents requires that students either demonstrate the appropriate skill levels in math, reading, and/or writing before enrolling in college-level courses or enroll in appropriate co-requisite experiences with college-level courses to develop competency in those skills while performing college-level work. ACT/SAT scores, classic ACCUPLACER test scores, next-generation ACCUPLACER test scores, or other relevant information determine whether a student needs to enroll in co-requisite courses in math, reading, and/or writing (English).
Internships can be an important addition to a student’s formal classroom work. Administrative Professional Technology Internship may substitute for technical courses with the prior approval of the instructor. The Career Services Office will provide the correct course numbers.
