SURG 1002 - Basic Skills

A study of sterile technique and basic techniques necessary to function as a surgical technologist in the scrub role. Topics include principles of sterile technique, surgical scrub, gowning and gloving self and others, case setup, medication handling, counts, draping, and proper instrument handling. A grade of “C” or above must be earned in courses to meet requirements for enrollment in subsequent courses. A grade of “C” or above in all Surgical Technology curriculum courses must be earned prior to graduation. Prerequisite(s): Program application, interview and instructor permission, completed health program documentation including background check and drug screening. Co-requisite(s): SURG 1003, SURG 1004.
