Catalog Scope and Limits

The course offerings and requirements of the college are continually under examination and revision. This catalog presents the offerings and requirements in effect at the time of publication (online posting), but there is no guarantee they will not be changed or revoked. However, adequate and reasonable notice will be given to students affected by any changes. This catalog is not intended to state contractual terms and does not constitute a contract between the student and the college.

The college reserves the right to make changes as required in course offerings, curricula, academic policies, and other rules and regulations affecting students, to be effective whenever determined by the college. The enrollment of all students is subject to these conditions. Current information may be obtained from the following sources: Admission Requirements–Admissions Office, Course Offerings–Program or Division offering the course, Degree Requirements–Records Office, and Tuition–Bursar’s Office. Nashville State Community College provides the opportunity for students to increase their knowledge by providing programs of instruction in the various disciplines through faculty who are qualified for teaching at the college level. The acquisition and retention of knowledge by any student is, however, contingent upon the student’s desire and ability to learn and upon application of appropriate study techniques to any course or program. Thus, Nashville State Community College must necessarily limit representation of student preparedness in any field of study to that competency demonstrated at that specific point in time at which appropriate academic measurements were taken to certify course or program completion.

Policy Statement of Nondiscrimination

It is the intent of Nashville State Community College that no individual shall be discriminated against on the basis of race, color, religion, creed, ethnic or national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, disability, age (as applicable), status as a covered veteran, genetic information, and any other category protected by federal or state civil rights law. In promulgating this policy statement it is the College’s intent to fully comply with Executive Order 11246, as amended; the Rehabilitation Act of 1973; Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990; the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Act of 1974, as amended; the Equal Pay Act of 1963, as amended; the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967, as amended the Age Discrimination Act of 1975; the Pregnancy Discrimination Act, Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 as amended, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act as amended, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, §485(f) of the HEA, as amended by §304 of the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2013, the regulations implementing these Acts found at 34 CFR §668.41, §668.46, and Appendix A to Subpart D of Part 668; and Sections 799A and 845 of the Public Health Service Act and Regulations issued pursuant thereto found at 45 CFR Parts 83 and 86, as well as all applicable state statutes and all regulations promulgated pursuant thereto.

Academic Credentials to comply with T.C.A § 49-7-133

It is a Class A misdemeanor to misrepresent academic credentials.  A person commits the offense of misrepresentation of academic credentials who, knowing that the statement is false and with the intent to secure employment at or admission to an institution of higher education in Tennessee, represents, orally or in writing that such person:

  1. Has successfully completed the required course work for and has been awarded one (1) or more degrees or diplomas from an accredited institution of higher education;
  2. Has successfully completed the required course work for and has been awarded one (1) or more degrees for diplomas from a particular institution of higher education; or
  3. Has successfully completed the required course work for and has been awarded one (1) or more degrees or diplomas in a particular field or specialty from an accredited institution of higher education.

  3. Has successfully completed the required course work for and has been awarded one (1) or more degrees or diplomas in a particular field or specialty from an accredited institution of higher education.

U.S. Department of Education Title IV Financial and Program Integrity

Students or prospective students who wish to file a complaint related to accreditation or regarding violations of state law not resolved at the institution may submit a Student Complaint Form to the Tennessee Board of Regents at 1 Bridgestone Park, Nashville, Tennessee 37214, or by going online and filing out the form electronically at www.tbr.edu/academics/program-integrity-student-complaint-form. Under Tennessee’s open records law, all or parts of complaints will generally be available for review upon request from a member of the public. Complaints regarding accreditation can also be made by contacting the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097, telephone 404-679-4500, at www.sacscoc.org.

Accreditation and Memberships

Nashville State Community College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award associate degrees and technical certificates. The Nashville State Community College Paralegal Studies program is approved by the American Bar Association, Standing Committee on Paralegals (Approval Commission).

The Architectural Design Technology, Civil and Construction Engineering Technology, and the Electrical Engineering Technology programs are accredited by the Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering (ATMAE).

The Nashville State Community College Nursing Program has full approval status by the Tennessee Board of Nursing. The Board of Commissioners of the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) has granted the Nashville State Community College Nursing Program continuing accreditation.  The next accreditation site visit will be conducted Spring 2026.

National Council for Marketing and Public Relations

The Surgical Technology Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (www.caahep.org) upon the recommendation of the Accreditation Review Council on Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.

The Culinary Arts A.A.S. degree program is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of the American Culinary Federation Education Foundation.

The Early Childhood Education A.A.S. degree program is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
