The Accounting Technology Technical Certificate prepares students for various entry-level positions within the accounting system of a company. The program includes courses that provide the student with basic accounting skills as well as a significant working knowledge of business application software.

The Accounting Technology Technical Certificate provides an alternative to students who choose not to pursue the Associate of Applied Science degree in Computer Accounting.

Graduates of the program should be able to:

Understand basic accounting principles;
Prepare and know the purpose and elements of financial statements;
Gather, summarize, report, and analyze financial data;
Understand the role of accounting information systems;
Demonstrate an understanding of local, state, and federal tax laws and reporting;
Apply knowledge to solve real-world problems; and
Demonstrate proficiency in the use of business and accounting application software used to solve a wide range of business problems.

Grading Policy

A grade of “C” or above must be earned in prerequisite courses to meet requirements for enrollment in subsequent courses. A grade of “C” or above in all Computer Accounting courses, ACCT and INFS, must be earned prior to graduation.

Transfer/Advising

The certificate is designed so that a student can apply all of the required courses toward the Nashville State A.A.S. degree in Computer Accounting. A student who plans to apply the certificate toward an A.A.S. degree should consult his/her advisor about articulation options.

INFS 1000 - Intro to Microcomputing 3 Credits
OR
OAD 1117 - Business Communications 3 Credits *
INFS 1010 - Computer Applications 3 Credits

Total Certificate Requirements: 29 Credits

Note:

* Students possessing competencies equivalent to INFS 1000 may choose OAD 1117 instead of INFS 1000. If so, INFS 1010 - Computer Applications should be taken in the first semester, and OAD 1117 - Business Communications in the second semester. Students that do not have INFS 1000 competencies should take INFS 1000 in the first semester and INFS 1010 in the second semester.

Cooperative work experience can be an important addition to a student’s formal classroom work. Co-op courses may substitute for technical courses with the prior approval of the Program Coordinator. The Career Services Office will provide the correct course numbers.
