The Civil and Construction Engineering Technology A.A.S. degree is accredited by the Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering (ATMAE). Consistent with the mission of the College, the Civil and Construction Engineering Technology Program publishes the following broad stated educational objectives or the expected accomplishments from graduates during their first few years after graduation.

Program Outcomes

Graduates of this program will be able to:

  • Apply principles of mathematics and applied science, to perform technical calculations and solve technical problems of the types commonly encountered in civil and construction engineering technology careers.
  • Demonstrate the ability to identify, formulate, and present creative solutions to technical problems in a variety of specialty areas within the broad fields of civil and construction engineering technology.
  • Demonstrate an ability to utilize computer software applications used in civil and construction engineering technology such as CAD, spreadsheets, word processing, and other industry-related software.
  • Function competently in a laboratory setting, to utilize surveying methods, make measurements, operate technical equipment, critically examine findings and properly report on results.
  • Use graphic techniques to produce engineering documents and use modern instruments, methods, and techniques to implement construction contracts, documents, and codes.
  • Demonstrate an ability to communicate and function effectively as a member of a team.

The Civil and Construction Engineering Technology program provides an academic and technical foundation for individuals for employment in the civil and construction related career fields. Successful graduates will exhibit skills in teamwork, communication and use of current technology to support the planning, analysis, design and construction of both small and large-scale construction and civil projects.  Students have a basic understanding of testing and design, performing necessary technical calculations and analysis, cost budgeting, scheduling, and technical reporting. Students will be prepared to work entry-level positions in a broad range of supervisory and management careers related to civil engineering or the construction industries. 

Transfer/Advising

The A.A.S. degree is designed to prepare a student for employment upon graduation. Some universities, at their discretion, accept some technical courses for transfer. A student who plans to transfer to a university should consult his/her advisor about transfer prior to registration for classes. Failure to do so could result in loss of transfer credits.

Note:


Students must successfully complete a minimum of 12 semester hours of technical course work at Nashville State.

Additional course requirements: The Tennessee Board of Regents requires that students either demonstrate the appropriate skill levels in math, reading, and/or writing before enrolling in college-level courses or enroll in appropriate co-requisite experiences with college-level courses to develop competency in those skills while performing college-level work. ACT/SAT scores, classic ACCUPLACER test scores, next-generation ACCUPLACER test scores, or other relevant information determine whether a student needs to enroll in co-requisite courses in math, reading, and/or writing (English).
