The Architectural, Civil and Construction Engineering Technology A.A.S. degree is accredited by the Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering (ATMAE). Consistent with the mission of the College, the Architectural, Civil and Construction Engineering Technology Program publishes the following broad stated educational objectives or the expected accomplishments from graduates during their first few years after graduation.
Program Outcomes
- Demonstrate an ability to identify, analyze, and interpret data in order to solve technical problems;
- Function on teams demonstrating leadership and team skills; and
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate both in oral and written mediums by preparing reports, documents and presentations from multiple sources.
The Architectural, Civil and Construction Engineering Technology degree offers students a broad range of courses in the design and construction of residential and commercial buildings as well as heavy construction projects such as highways, water and wastewater systems, storm drainage and general site planning. The student will choose either the Architectural Concentration or the Civil and Construction Concentration.
Civil and Construction Engineering Technology Concentration
Program Site
The Civil and Construction Engineering Technology Concentration prepares students for careers in the fields of surveying, materials testing, construction management and computer-aided-drafting. The program prepares individuals for employment by providing a strong foundation in fundamentals of Surveying and Global Information Systems, Construction Management and Computer-Aided Drafting. The most current computer applications are integrated into the coursework. Computer applications include three-dimensional computer modeling and digital surveying software.
Concentration Outcomes
- Perform basic calculations in the fields of surveying, water, structures and construction;
- Use current computer software applications specific to the civil and construction industry;
- Demonstrate knowledge of the materials and methods of construction for residential and commercial buildings; and
- Operate designated tools and equipment in a lab and field environment.
Transfer/Advising
The A.A.S. degree is designed to prepare a student for employment upon graduation. Some universities, at their discretion, accept some technical courses for transfer. A student who plans to transfer to a university should consult his/her advisor about transfer prior to registration for classes. Failure to do so could result in loss of transfer credits.

Technical Elective
Technical Elective to be chosen from any courses with an ACT, CAD, or CIT prefix. Students may also use Co-Operative Education to fulfill the requirement. 3 Credits
Note:
Additional courses from other disciplines may be substituted for the technical elective with approval of the student’s faculty advisor and the permission of the program coordinator.
*This course is part of the general education core.

Additional course requirements: The Tennessee Board of Regents requires that students either demonstrate the appropriate skill levels in math, reading, and/or writing before enrolling in college-level courses or enroll in appropriate co-requisite experiences with college-level courses to develop competency in those skills while performing college-level work. ACT/SAT scores, ACCUPLACER test scores, COMPASS test scores, or other relevant information determine whether a student needs to enroll in co-requisite courses in math, reading, and/or writing (English).
