This 15-17 hour certificate will enable students to complete all courses required for the general education core for Associate of Applied Science degrees. After earning the certificate, a student can earn an A.A.S. degree by completing the remaining required hours in the intended major. Some A.A.S. degrees require specific general education core courses. Students should check the required courses in their specific majors.

Summary of Required Hours:

Communications:

Humanities or Fine Arts: 3 Credits

Social/Behavioral Sciences: 3 Credits

Natural Sciences or Math: 3-4 Credits

Elective: 3-4 additional credits from Communications or an area listed above

Notes:

Additional course requirements: The Tennessee Board of Regents requires that students either demonstrate the appropriate skill levels in math, reading, and/or writing before enrolling in college-level courses or enroll in appropriate co-requisite experiences with college-level courses to develop competency in those skills while performing college-level work. ACT/SAT scores, ACCUPLACER test scores, COMPASS test scores, or other relevant information determine whether a student needs to enroll in co-requisite courses in math, reading, and/or writing (English).

Courses in this certificate must be selected from courses approved for the NSCC general education core. These courses are found here .
