HCM 2250 - Survey of Coding 3 Credits 3 Class Hours
This course provides an overview of coding and classification systems in a variety of healthcare settings. Topics include classification and coding systems emphasizing ICD and CPT, reimbursement/billing systems, and coding’s relationship to health information management. Upon completion, students should be able to apply coding principles to correctly assign ICD and CPT codes and utilize electronic filing for reimbursement. Prerequisite(s): HCM 2000 and HCM 2200 with a grade of “C” or higher. Student must maintain a grade of “C” or higher in order to progress in program.
