PHIL 2023 - Recent European Philosophy


(Formerly Continental Philosophy)

3 Class Hours

A survey of recent Continental philosophy beginning with late 19th-century European thinkers such as Kierkegaard and Nietzsche and developing through philosophical subfields such as existentialism, phenomenology, cultural theory, hermeneutics, feminism, and deconstruction. Topics include the meaning of human existence, subjectivity, embodiment, free will, ethics, religion, and language. Prerequisite(s): Level 2 placement in English  or concurrent enrollment in ENGL 1010  and ENGL 0815 ; Level 2 placement in Reading .
